The shelters hope to help both cats in the community as well as those living in the shelters, a spokesperson said. The special food donations for felines will run through Nov. 30.

Dry and wet cat food will be accepted for the food drive. Opened bags of dry food can also be donated.

“We’re really hoping this food drive will sustain those efforts through the end of the year,” said Alyssa Krieger, MSPCA associate director of community outreach. “For that to happen, we need to collect about 200,000 cat meals.”

Donation bins are located outside of MSPCA adoption centers in Boston, Methuen and Cape Cod, and also at the NEAS in Salem. Online donations can be made at https://mspca.org/wishlist and will directly be delivered to the shelters.

“With inflation soaring this year, our cat food donations have slowed, at a time when more people are coming to us for help,” Krieger said. “We’ve been holding Catsgiving food drives for close to a decade, but the need is definitely greatest this year.”
